Data and feedback accumulated through pop ups, a community workshop and an online survey about a new central library in Saskatoon has been released in a report from Saskatoon Public Library titled “What We Heard”. The report compiled information from Saskatoon residents on what they would like to see in a new central location. Some of things residents would like to see include a coffee shop, more natural lighting and large space for the library’s large collection of diverse materials. SPL CEO, Carol Cooley says people also shared their thoughts on the current Frances Morrison Library. She says people said that the building was dated and that there wasn’t enough space. The current location was built in 1966 and was intended to serve a community of 110,000. Cooley says people also said they would like a new location to include space for private meetings and events, local history and children’s theatre. In May, Cooley says they’ll present City Council with their business plan in regards to a new central library. From there council will either give the okay to proceed with the plan or go back to the drawing board.
