The acting Vice-Dean in the College of Arts and Science at the University of Saskatchewan has won the 2018 Achievement Award from the Saskatchewan Health Research Foundation.
Dr. Ingrid Pickering has helped pioneer research and clinical trials that suggest selenium supplements can provide relief for arsenic poisoning which affects 100-million people worldwide.
Her work utilizing synchrotron technology explores the effects of heavy metals on human health and the environment.
The foundation also recognized her training and mentorship of others on the synchrotron technology.
Dr. Pickering is also the Canada Research Chair in Molecular Environmental Science in the university’s Department of Geological Sciences.
