Saskatchewan’s Financial and Consumer Affairs Authority has some tips for anyone thinking of buying a car at auction.
The auctioneer is responsible for proving key information about vehicles being sold by dealers.
In addition to providing the dealer’s name, they must have information about the vehicle’s history and condition including roadworthiness.
The auctioneer has to provide details on work needed to make any un-roadworthy vehicle safe to drive.
The authority says successful bidders can ask for refunds if any of these conditions are not met.
Dealers are also not allowed to sell any vehicle “as is”.
