It’s my Parting Shot for my Weekend Short Shots about tie games…
While I understand that there are time limits for ice use at individual curling clubs, I have made an editorial decision not to report tie scores in Saskatoon High School Curling League games. I don’t believe in tie games, I don’t like when games finish that way and I think a tie in curling is non-sensical! Throw skips rocks prior to the game starting…closest to the button wins the game if it ends up tied!
With that in mind, I applaud L-A Chargers’ head coach Anthony Lynn for not just not hesitating to play for the win…but telling his team he was going to do that if they could score a touchdown and needed a two-point convert to win last night in Kansas City. Sure enough, that confidence Lynn showed in his offence not only led to the touchdown, but a successful two-point convert for the victory. A lot of N-F-L coaches would’ve kicked the single point and tried their luck in overtime. Of course, it was a lot easier call for Lynn to make…even if they miss, they are all but guaranteed an A-F-C wild-card playoff spot. Now, they are in the hunt for the A-F-C West title and a bye into the Division playoff round!
I want all sports games to be played until there is a winner and a loser. I hate ties. I will admit that, in hockey, using a shootout to determine a tournament winner or a league playoff game is fine. But, don’t do away with the shootout for regular-season games. I still have yet to see a fan walk out of an arena because a game would be decided by a shootout. After all, fans are the ones paying to keep hockey going…don’t go against their wishes!
That’s my Parting Shot, I’m Les Lazaruk…
