The caroling firefighters are looking for hot spots today (Fri), not to put out fires but to flame the giving spirit for CJWW Denny Carr Secret Santa. This group of volunteers is caroling at businesses, offices, restaurants and Christmas parties throughout the city, looking for donations for Secret Santa. Executive Director of the Secret Santa Foundation, Nicole Semko, says the Saskatoon firefighters have been with them since the beginning and they are part of the fabric of the organization with all that they do to make sure 800 families have food hampers and toys for the holiday season. Another organization that has been through the years is the Blades and tonight (Fri) is Secret Santa Night at the Blades game. Semko says they will be on location at SaskTel Centre where you can drop off new, unwrapped toys for children in need. This is the 35th annual Secret Santa campaign.

The Candian government wants the country’s banks to identify, in customers’ bank statements when they receive the carbon rebate, that it is labelled as such.
Environment Minister Steven Guilbeault says the lack of a clear identifier is contributing to confusion about carbon price rebates, so he is going to change the law if he has to in order to force the big banks to identify the carbon rebate by name when doing direct deposits.
The first rebate deposits in 2022 were labelled very generically, which meant recipients had no idea why they were getting the money.
T-D and B-MO have adopted the government’s requested “CdaCarbonRebate” entry, R-B-C and Scotiabank say they couldn’t make the change in time for the rollout, and C-I-B-C is still calling it “Deposit Canada.”
