The Provincial Government is altering the electoral divisions in the Rural Municipality of McKillop. Government Relations Minister Warren Kaeding says the decision was made, “Based on the desires of the people, as reflected in the outcome of the referendum question and following careful review.” The province received an application last month from the RM to alter six of the municipality’s electoral division boundaries. Because of the change, an election for six division councilors must now take place. That will happen on February 27th. The position of Reeve is unaffected.
This is the same RM where the province appointed a supervisor to oversee general operations and monitor th progress in carrying out recommendations from an inspector’s report. This came after the provincial government received concerns about the governance and administration of the RM. A group of concerned citizens said that taxes more than doubled last summer because council spending was out of control.
