The Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nations supports the call from the family of Brydon Whitstone for an independent inquiry into his death.
He died after being shot by RCMP in October of 2017.
Whitstone was shot and killed in an altercation with the RCMP, after crashing into two police cars.
Mounties testified Whitstone made a move toward his waist area, which led to a member firing his gun. It was later determined Whitstone was unarmed.
Another witness testified Whitstone told a passenger in his car he wanted to die.
The coroner’s jury in North Battleford couldn’t decide if it was a homicide or suicide.
A lawyer representing the Whitstone family feels the media didn’t accurately report the details and facts from the inquest.
The F-S-I-N wants the Ministry of Justice to review the case and the investigation by the Regina Police Service.
