The City of Prince Albert has put the idea of a toll on the Diefenbaker Bridge on the back burner. City Manager Jim Toye (toy) says the proposal wasn’t included in the 2019 budget.
The concept is based on a University of Saskatchewan study indicating 75-percent of the 22-thousand vehicles using the bridge each day come from outside the city. Mayor Greg Dionne has said those drivers would be charged a toll while people living in neighbouring RM’s would get a special rate. Prince Albert residents would be exempt.
Dionne said money from the Diefenbaker toll would pay for a second bridge which would also be tolled and both would be removed once the new bridge is paid for.
