The Agricultural Producers Association of Saskatchewan supports the provincial government’s constitutional reference case on the federal carbon tax.
APAS President Todd Lewis says it’s important that farmers and ranchers are able to express their perspective on this matter.
“Saskatchewan producers manage 43 percent of Canada’s cropland and 35 percent of the grasslands,” Lewis says. “We are deeply invested in finding the best way forward for both the health of our environment and the agricultural industry.
Sixteen organizations have been granted leave to appeal. Some support the Saskatchewan government position, while others have sided with the federal government. The Court of Appeal will hear the case in February.
