The job vacancy rate in Saskatchewan remains at 2.0 per cent, with 69 hundred unfilled jobs. That’s on the low side for provinces with only Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland and Labrador lower at 1.5 and 1.3 per cent respectively. Quebec has the tightest labour market in the country at 4.1 per cent. The Canadian Federation of Independent Business says the national rate is at 3.3 per cent. The CFIB says labour shortages continue to plague small businesses. Chief Economist Ted Mallett says businesses are really feeling the pressure in Quebec, BC and Ontario.
