It’s a unique way to practice conservation and it’s popular because the “Getting into the Christmas Spirit at Messier” event this Saturday is already full. Nature Conservancy Canada is inviting folks to chop down their own tree for Christmas. NCC’s Matthew Braun says out of place trees change the local habitat and evergreens, or spruce trees, are not part of the natural ecosystem at their Messier property, located about a 40 minute drive from Saskatoon. Trees are planted throughout the property and NCC folks will show those signed up to participate where they can go to pick out a tree and chop it down.
