It’s estimated between 9 and 10 this morning, about 20-thousand people were trying to contact SaskPower about outages.
Spokesperson Jordan Jackle says between Friday evening and Monday morning about 25-thousand calls came in with outages because of frost and wind affecting the power lines, and then today outages have been reported in Regina, Weyburn, Moose Jaw, Estevan, Melville, Humboldt and Rosthern, along with smaller communities and rural areas.
Jackle says frost is expected to be the cause of a lot of the outages, but it’s not known for sure, so they are still working on that, along with getting the whole picture of who has been impacted.
Power is expected to be out until late afternoon and perhaps longer in some areas.
Jackle says hundreds of SaskPower employees are on the job dealing with the power outages. The Crown Corporation advises that traffic lights will not work so you must treat intersections as a four way stop.
