Santa’s little Saskatoon helpers will have busy hands tonight (Tues), beginning the filling of the hampers with non-perishable food items before distribution day on the 19th. Executive Director of the CJWW Denny Carr Secret Santa Foundation, Nicole Semko estimates about 100 people will divvy the food into 800 hampers, to feed 3,000 people. About 35,000 pounds of food has been dropped off at the warehouse in preparation for tonight’s hamper filling bee. Semko says last year, the work was done in 46 minutes, which will be a hard record to beat. It’s not too late to donate. You can drop of a new, unwrapped toy at various locations that include City Hall, CJWW, all Saskatoon Co-op Locations and The Mall at Lawson Heights. You can also donate online at www.saskatoonsecretsanta.ca. This is the 35th annual Secret Santa event, which Semko estimates has helped nearly 100,000 children and 50,000 families, supplying a food hamper and a toy from Santa for families in need.
