The Executive Director the North Battleford SPCA says they need 2.3 million dollars for a new building which Michelle Spark doesn’t believe realistically they can raise all on their own. They are currently in negotiation with North Battleford City Council with how the city will help with funding the shelter.
Spark says the building they reside in wasn’t built for an animal shelter 27 years ago, and is now falling apart. On top of that, most of the animals are contained to one area of the building, so if a virus was to enter the shelter, it could spread quickly. So far approximately 600 thousand dollars has been raised.
Spark says if all goes well the hope is to start building the new shelter in the spring of 2019 and move in for the spring of 2020.
