Just after the city adopted a new pay as you throw garbage program as well as a mandatory organic waste pick up program, reports are circulating that the inventor of plan has been fired. That would be the Director of Environmental and Corporate Initiatives – Brenda Wallace.
The plan to have residents charged for different garbage cart sizes as well as implementation of the mandatory organics pick up is slated to begin in 2020. Councillor Darren Hill vowed during this week’s budget deliberations, after months of debate finally culminated – just in the last few weeks – in a decision on how to fund the plan, that he will move the decision to have curb side waste collection funded as a utility – be rescinded.
The city would not confirm Brenda Wallace was fired on Friday nor did the city respond to the question of whether she was receiving a severance package or buy-out upon being terminated from her employment. However the official statement from City Manager Jeff Jorgenson is as follows:
“The City’s environmental files are Strategic Priorities for the City. While we understand and appreciate the public interest in any possible changes to the civic Administration, we respectfully decline interviews as the City does not discuss employee-employer matters in public.”
