The Saskatchewan NDP is asking for clarification on the provincial government’s position on mandatory trucker training.
NDP Leader Ryan Meili says legitimate concerns have been raised about drivers getting their license without having undergone any training.
Both Ontario and Alberta have mandatory truck driver training.
Crown Investments Minister Joe Hargrave says there have been extensive consultations and these things take time, but they will be making an announcement soon.
The push for new regulations follow the tragic collision last April between a semi and the Humboldt Broncos team bus where 16 people were killed and 13 injured.
The semi driver’s lawyer communicated to Melfort Provincial Court today (Tues) by phone, saying more time is needed as talks continue with the Crown.
Jaskirat Singh Sidhu’s case has been adjourned for another three weeks.
