Twenty-five hundred pounds of meat was donated to the Saskatoon Food Bank and Learning Centre this morning (tues). Deb Hamp with the food bank says it is the annual Giving Tuesday donation from the Saskatoon Wildlife Federation. The Hunt 4 Hunger Program is where hunters donate and the SWF takes care of packaging it up for distribution. After a weekend of consumerism with Black Friday sales carrying through to Cyber Monday, Tuesday is about donating to your community.
This holiday season Nutrien is matching every dollar donated to food banks in Saskatchewan up to 500-thousand-dollars. And that is a huge incentive that has proven beneficial according to Deb Hamp. But she says they also have a major campaign this holiday season called in “In Our Shoes”. She is encouraging people to put themselves in someone else’s shoes and imagine what it might be like to rely on a food bank.
