Many charitable groups are taking advantage of Giving Tuesday to highlight need. Nature Conservancy Canada is thanking Telus as well as anyone who donates on Giving Tuesday because Telus will match that donation.
In Saskatchewan funds will be directed to the Big Muddy Project with the goal of preserving 2,240 acres with a large majority being unbroken native grasslands. The area also includes 183 acres of critical wetlands and flood plain habitat.
The area is also home to animals listed under the federal Specials at Risk Act. Grasslands are considered one of the rarest and most at-risk ecosystems in the world. More than 800,000 hectares of native grassland has been lost in the past 25 years now occupying only 21% of the province.
Giving Tuesday takes place each year after Black Friday and Cyber Monday and is considered the opening day of the giving season.
