An amendment to the Builder’s Lien Act was introduced in the Saskatchewan Legislature on Tuesday which sets out payment timelines for the construction industry.
Justice Minister Don Morgan says this will ensure payments are made by owners and developers to contractors, and down the line by contractors to subcontractors, in a timely manner.
Payment will be required by owners and developers within 28 days of receiving an invoice for construction services, and then contractors will be required to pay subcontractors within a week of receiving that payment.
Saskatchewan Construction Association President and CEO, Mark Cooper says they will review the Bill, but they agree that no one should ever face bankruptcy because they haven’t been paid for the quality work they have already done.
