The provincial government is not in agreement with a Saskatchewan First Nation’s decision to open an unlicenced cannabis store.
The Muscowpetung First Nation opened a store this week after the band’s council passed its own Cannabis Act.
Justice minister Don Morgan says liquor stores can t be opened on reserve without a licence from the province, and the same holds true for cannabis stores.
He feels just opening up this shop without discussion ahead of time was not the way to go.
Morgan says the Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming Authority is dealing with the matter and he is hoping to sit down with Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nations Chief Bobby Cameron soon to discuss the matter.
The FSIN sent out a statement earlier this week saying they support what the First Nation near Fort Qu’Appelle is doing.
