The Saskatoon Taxi Cab Association says it’s ready to put more taxis on the road to meet demand during the holiday season, but the City of Saskatoon is standing in the way. Spokesman Carlo Triolo says, “For the last two Christmas seasons we have asked the city to let us put more cars on the road.” He says SGI is willing to issue temporary insurance coverage. The city just needs to sign off. Triolo says they haven’t. The association says the current number of cabs does not allow for an acceptable level of service, particularly during peak times that coincide with Saskatchewan Rush games, closing time for bars, or even with three flights arriving at the same time at the airport. The association maintains the situation gets worse when the Christmas season is in full swing.
