The Saskatchewan Health Authority is going to provide inhalation supplies to drug users. Doctor Ashok Chhetri, the Medical Health Officer in Yorkton says there is evidence from other jurisdictions that suggest these supplies reduce the risk of contracting HIV and Hepatitis C. The SHA says safer inhalation supplies will provide an alternative to injecting drugs and will reduce the use of makeshift pipes from things like glass bottles and aluminum cans. The inhalation supplies will become available at harm reduction sites with the next few months. There are 26 fixed and three mobile provincially-funded reduction programs across the province. Key community based organizations will also be part of the program.
