Finally, it’s my Parting Shot for my Monday Musings…
Ah yes…a home playoff game in Saskatchewan for the first time since 2013. That means being outside for three hours-plus in November. Depending on which weather service’s long-range forecast you look at, Regina will have a mix of sun and cloud on Sunday for the C-F-L Western semi-final between the Saskatchewan Roughriders and Winnipeg Blue Bombers with high temperatures ranging from -6 to -10, winds either from the north or west at between 10 to 15 kilometres per hour and gusting upwards of 20 kms. With that wind, the temperature will feel more like between -15 and -20. Come 3:30 Sunday afternoon, when the game kicks-off, I’ll be seated in my comfy chair at home, watching T-S-N!
Amazingly, the first C-F-L head coach fired wasn’t Jason Maas in Edmonton. Instead, it was Marc Trestman in Toronto…where all indications were that the head coach and management weren’t on the same page when it came to use of personnel. What’s even more amazing is that G-M Jim Popp and Trestman were a formidable team with Montreal 10 years ago. Obviously, not anymore!
Speaking of firings, the first N-H-L head coach to feel the axe this season is John Stevens in L-A. The Kings are 4-8-1 and last overall. The good news…one of the good guys in the game, former U of S sniper Willie Desjardins gets a second shot at being an N-H-L bench boss. The bad news for him…Willie doesn’t have Jonathan Quick to play goal for him while several of the Kings’ players appear to be beyond their “best before” date! I hope, for Desjardins’ sake, that I’m wrong!!
That’s my Parting Shot, I’m Les Lazaruk…
