Getting ready for emergencies is the goal behind a four day conference starting today (Mon) in Saskatoon. The theme for the Saskatchewan Emergency Planners Association event is “Fill in the Gaps”. Municipal leaders will have access to the latest information from experts in areas like climatology and mental preparation. The association’s board President grew up in a small municipality in Western Saskatchewan and knows how important this information is to RM administrators who don’t have the time or resources to make emergency planning a part of their routines. Tracy Wilson-Gerwing says municipal leaders can connect with emergency planners in other communities and put faces to the names of the emergency officials they may need to contact. A panel discussion is planned surrounding the extreme wind and wildfire events last October along the Saskatchewan-Alberta border. The changing weather patterns will be the focus of one of the keynote addresses.
