There have been 5 more cases of Salmonella reported in western Canada, and the link may be long English cucumbers.
The Public Health Agency of Canada is collaborating with provincial public health partners, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency and Health Canada in the investigation.
At this point, there have been 42 cases in British Columbia, 5 in Alberta, and 1 each in Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Quebec, although the person affected in Quebec had travelled to B.C.
Many of those who became sick reported eating long English cucumbers, although more information is needed to determine the possible causes of contamination.
The advice from the Public Health Agency is practice safe food handling.
That includes washing your hands for at least 20 seconds before and after handling fresh produce, cutting away any damaged ares and clean your knife with hot water and soap before using it again.
