A generous gift from a University of Saskatchewan alumnus means 5 university students from Iqaluit were able to travel to Saskatoon for the first time since the Nunavut Law Program was established.
Ken Freeden was recently chosen as Canada’s General Counsel of the year and received $20-thousand, which he gifted to the College of Law.
The students are participating in the Indigenous Bar Association Annual Conference which wrapped up this weekend.
The Nunuvut Law Program was launched in 2017.
It prepares students for legal studies in the first year and then offers the same rigorous program as the College of Law in the remaining 3 years.
The goal is to increase the number of practicing lawyers in the territory, to produce grads that can practice in various fields of law and to improve access to justice for those that live in Nunavut .
