Students at St. Joseph High School collected over 24-thousand pounds of food in this year’s “Halloweening for Hunger” campaign.
About 125 students fanned out over 100 routes throughout Saskatoon during Halloween night to gather non-perishable items for the Saskatoon Food Bank and Learning Centre.
Teacher and organizer Rachelle Kelln said students and volunteers spent Thursday morning packing the food into a truck headed for the food bank.
She credits the students for executing a well organized plan and residents for their generous response.
Kelln said students were picking up donations Thursday morning from residents who were missed on Wednesday night while others who weren’t home when students dropped by called in to say they had food to donate.
St. Joseph students have collected over 100-thousand pounds of food since the event started twelve years ago.
