Both the Saskatchewan Urban Municipalities Association and the Saskatchewan Association of Rural Municipalities say they support the Saskatchewan Government’s climate change strategy. SUMA President Gordon Barnhart says Saskatchewan’s municipalities have taken a leadership role in adopting carbon reduction strategies. The two organisations say that the federal carbon tax could affect the ability of municipalities here to innovatively adapt and build resilience to climate change. Justin Trudeau’s inaction on moving oil by pipelines seems counterproductive to his claim of concern for climate change. SARM President Ray Orb points out that moving oil by pipeline rather than by rail would also release fewer emissions.
