SaskPower has signed a new agreement with Manitoba Hydro that outlines the ground work for purchasing an additional 215 megawatts of renewable electricity for Saskatchewan customers. The agreement outlines a power purchase where the Saskatchewan crown will buy 190 megawatts of capacity from Manitoba Hydro with the option to buy an another 25 megawatts. SaskPower says the final legal contract for the sale is expected to be concluded by the middle of 2019 and will be in effect by 2022.
The crown adds the agreement will last 30 years and allow for SaskPower to acquire hydro generated power at a competitive cost.
In 2015, SaskPower signed a 25 megawatt agreement with Manitoba Hydro that will last until 2022. Two years ago in 2016, SaskPower signed a 20 year agreement with the hydro company for 100 megawatts. The 2016 agreement will come into effect in 2020.
