Cameco says the Canada Revenue Agency is appealing a Tax Court of Canada decision last month which found in favour of Cameco for tax years 2003, 05, and 06. The dispute involves reassessments issued by the CRA involving the subsidiary, Cameco Europe. Cameco said at the time, they expected the decision to be relevant to subsequent years. If true, the potential cash taxes and transfer pricing penalties-owing would be between $1.95 and $2.15 billion. President and CEO Tim Gitzel says, “We are disappointed that the CRA has taken this action after such a clear and decisive ruling from the Tax Court.” Cameco believes it will take about two years for the Federal Court of Appeal to hear and decide on the mater.
