Saskatchewan is dealing with a struggling economy, but the Leader of the official opposition doesn’t believe the government understands what it’s like to be an out-of-work construction worker or a parent with a teenage struggling with addictions , or a child with a learning disability.
Ryan Meili describes the Throne Speech as extremely thin on vision.
He says there is no acknowledgement on the way in which decisions like adding PST to construction and restaurant meals have affected these sectors.
Meili pointed to healthcare struggling in Saskatchewan in comparison to other provinces and over spending on the Global Transportation Hub and the Regina Bypass.
A summary of the Throne Speech includes 18 bullet points, and Meili says 12 of them are old announcements.
He feels the Premier is missing out on his chance to put his stamp on things.
Meili calls education funding no being listed as striking, because over $70-million in funding was cut in the last 2 years despite 5-thousand new students coming in.
He believes education funding not only would help now but it would pay off in the long term.
