Canadian Agriculture Minister Lawrence MacAulay met with his Chinese counterpart in Ottawa this week.
Han Changfu and his delegation toured the Ottawa region with a stop at the Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada Research and Development Center. The Center focuses on crop development, targeting corn, soybean, spring wheat, winter wheat, oats and barley.
The Chinese delegation also saw a beef farm and toured the Olymel hog and processing facility in the Montreal region.
Next month, MacAulay will make the return trip to China. It will be his third Canadian trade mission since 2016.
China is Canada’s second largest trading partner in agriculture and food with total sales estimated at $8.6 billion.
