That from the Saskatchewan RCMP on the eve of the legalization of marijuana.
Canada’s laws are changing at midnight tonight and RCMP say they are prepared.
Their message is that impaired driving of any kind is illegal and police will continue to enforce illegal consumption and impaired driving.
The RCMP will be enforcing the new laws in regards to the possession, cultivation and sale of cannabis products.
In preparation for the legalization, the Saskatchewan RCMP has increased capacity in areas like prevention and engagement, intelligence and training.
Saskatchewan RCMP say they have been working with all levels of government to ensure officers are well-equipped to detect drug-impaired driving.
Over 100 officers have been trained in the Standardized Field Sobriety Tests and are on track to have 100 Drug Recognition Evaluators by the end of next year.
Police are also being trained on the Oral Fluid Device as part of a limited roll-out of this device to be used for roadside testing.
