It’s the 4th year for the Wicihitowin Aboriginal Engagement Conference in Saskatoon, which is a hot ticket that has been sold out for over a month with 500 delegates attending.
It’s a multi-group presentation which includes the City of Saskatoon.
Director of Aboriginal Relations, Gilles Dorval, says this year’s conference focuses on helping organizations to respectfully engage Indigenous people as employees and volunteers and to support groups hoping to incorporate Aboriginal values within their programs or service delivery.
The 2 day conference which begins tomorrow (Wed) has been divided the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action into different sectors, like education, justice, language and health.
Dorval says the goal is to have delegates become more aware of the issues and challenges and to connect with others.
There will be survivors of the sixties scoop and residential schools presenting, along with former Truth and Reconciliation Commission members, leaders of various religions, Saskatoon’s Police Chief, the province’s Advocate for Children and Youth among others.
