Police officers across the country are taking a proactive approach to impaired driving prevention through Operation Impact this weekend. RCMP officer, Sgt. Conrad Logan with Combined Traffic Services of Saskatchewan, says it’s a national initiative from the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police annually around the Thanksgiving weekend.
He says officers will be doing stop-checks and will be looking for the big four: impaired driving, seatbelt use, aggressive driving and distracted driving. These four are the main causes of deaths in Saskatchewan and across the country. Sgt. Logan says his message is simple. Drive safe, drive for the road conditions and the weather, and be cognizant of what’s around you and other traffic that’s on the road with you. Everyone has the right to come home safe, so if you are planning on drinking or are under the influence of drugs, don’t drive. Operation Impact runs through Monday.
