Northern communities continue to have issues with the illegal sale of alcohol, which RCMP describe as a crime with a ripple effect because it feeds peoples’ addictions, and addictions have a major impact on crime. North District RCMP are trying to be proactive by asking for information on persons or businesses that are selling it. If you know anything, you can call your local detachment.
Anyone who buys alcohol for resale or takes orders for resale without the appropriate permits is bootlegging. This includes selling to those who are under age, those who have been refused by liquor store or bar staff, or re-selling liquor from a home or business. Fines range from $500 to $5-thousand or two months in jail, or both, for first offences.
