A bilateral agreement signed between the Governments of Canada and Saskatchewan means more than $896-million in federal funding through the Investing in Canada plan.
It’s for infrastructure projects over the next decade which will be cost-shared with the province, municipalities and other partners.
The projects will be around public transit, green infrastructure, recreational, cultural and community infrastructure.
One of the goals is better roads and improved cell and internet service for those in remote communities.
Under the first phase of the Investing in Canada plan, Infrastructure Canada has approved more than 35-hundred projects in the country with 120 of those in Saskatchewan to the tune of more than $234-million.
The federal cost-share for rural and northern infrastructure increased last February from 50 to 60 per cent, meaning communities with fewer than 5-thousand people receive a higher proportion of federal infrastructure funding and Indigenous communities are eligible for a cost share of up to 75 per cent.
