Several police vehicles were hit late this morning (Sun) while officers pursued a white Ford F350 linked to a theft from Lloydminster Sunday afternoon and a police officer being injured on Highway 40 this morning (Mon). An RCMP officer stopped a pickup truck just west of the Village of Richard which is about 100 kilometres northwest of Saskatoon. Police say when the driver took off, it then turned around and allegedly tried to run down the officer, whose injuries are serious but non life threatening.
He has since been released from hospital.
Battlefords RCMP later found the truck speeding on a grid road near Speers, so patrol vehicles were set up at strategic locations with tire deflation devices, and when the truck evaded them, that’s when the police vehicles were hit. On the third try, one of the tires went flat, although the suspect continued on and headed toward the village of Cochin. According to the RCMP, the driver headed for a gas station and attempted to steal another vehicle, but the 37 year old man was quickly arrested and is currently in custody.
