Drivers endangering roadway workers continues to be a problem in Saskatoon. In the latest incident, the city alleges a driver narrowly missed a worker and damaged specialized patching equipment at a work zone on Circle Drive. The driver has been ticketed for Driving without Due Care and Attention. Earlier this month, the same kind if ticket was issued when a driver allegedly entered a work zone in the area of Central Avenue and 103rd Street, hit some equipment, dragging it off the curb. No staff were injured, however a crew member says it was disheartening that the driver was indifferent about the accident. The city said at the time that at least 8 other incidents were being investigated by police. Brandon Harris, Director of Roadways and Operations says, “People squeeze their vehicles between barricades all the time, thinking they are above the law.” He says it’s dangerous for workers, puts the equipment at risk of damage and can be harmful to drivers.
