It’s my Parting Shot for my reactions to the headlines in today’s Star-Phoenix Sports Section…
First headline…Leafs’ Babcock eager to see the ‘real players’ hit the ice. My reaction…Everyone is. The exhibition campaign is too long. I say start training camp right after the Labour Day long weekend and open the regular season at the same time as the Major Junior year begins…that way the junior teams get their players back and the N-H-L regular-season ends two weeks earlier and the Stanley Cup is awarded two weeks earlier…maybe before the calendar flips over to June!
Next headline…Ex-Senator Hoffman has ‘no regrets’ after drama-filled summer. Reaction…until it’s proven beyond a shadow of a doubt which significant other was responsible for tearing apart the Ottawa Senators, only then can anyone have regrets. All I know is that a bitter social media battle between Mike Hoffman’s fiancee and Erik Karlsson’s wife in the last year led to both players being jettisoned…and leaving Sens’ fans staring at a painful re-build!
Last headline…Woods endures quite the swing in public persona, ‘More human’ Tiger suddenly the people’s underdog after years of career setbacks. My reaction…Tiger Woods has always been my “golf” underdog. But, I’m not alone in saying that his off-the-course behaviour was something I couldn’t condone. And, many won’t forgive or forget what he has done…no matter how well he does on the course! However, I will say golf is watchable again with Eldrick doing well!
That’s my Parting Shot, I’m Les Lazaruk…
