More fossils were discovered this summer by scientists with the Royal Saskatchewan Museum.
Some of the highlights include the skull of a baby elasmosaur from Lake Diefenbaker, a duck-billed dinosaur skull near Shaunavon, Triceratops bones near Grasslands National Park, and teeth from a type of armoured dinosaur with a clubbed tail near Consul.
Pieces of amber were collected near Bengough containing insects from the Cretaceous period, including a newly discovered species of wasp.
Sometimes the significance of a discovery isn’t realized until later.
Two years ago, a turtle fossil was collected which has since been confirmed to be from a rare group of turtles.
These fossils will be added to the provincial collection and be used for study and research until next summer, when more fieldwork will begin.
