William Powell rushed for two touchdowns and 148 yards as the Ottawa Redblacks beat the Saskatchewan Roughriders 30-25 Saturday night.
Ottawa (7-5) moved into sole possession of first place in the CFL’s East Division with the win. The loss dropped Saskatchewan to 7-5 and put an end to a four-game winning streak.
Powell’s second touchdown, a 69-yard burst in the fourth quarter, gave Ottawa a 30-18 advantage.
The Riders made it close late in the fourth quarter when quarterback Zach Collaros hit Naaman Roosevelt with a 34-yard touchdown pass. That score brought the Riders within five with 2;40 remaining.
One week after Saskatchewan’s defence registered five interceptions and returned two for touchdowns in a dominant win over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, the unit looked rather ordinary against Trevor Harris and the Ottawa offence.
Harris was sharp all night. The Redblacks quarterback threw for more than 300 yards and two touchdowns. Diontae Spencer was his favourite target with eight receptions and 110 yards receiving.
