The Federation of the Sovereign Indigenous Nations is calling on Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his cabinet to properly consult and provide Saskatchewan Chiefs the adequate time needed to hear their concerns.
The FSIN says that the Prime Minister has stressed that no relationship is more important to him and to the country than the one with Indigenous people.
Many chiefs travelled to Saskatoon to speak with Trudeau last week and FSIN Chief Bobby Cameron says one hour isn’t enough time to hear legitimate concerns from 74 First Nations.
Cameron adds that the Prime Minister only allowed for 10 Chiefs to speak for 2 to 3 minutes each and says how can issues be addressed in such a limited time frame.
Cameron says he has extended the invitation to the Prime Minister to meet with Chiefs at the FSIN Assembly where issues can be further discussed.
