It’s my Parting Shot for my reactions to the headlines in today’s Star-Phoenix Sports Section…
First headline…It’s “go time” once puck drops, new coach says. My reaction…That’s what new Humboldt Broncos’ G-M and head coach Nathan Oystrick wants. And, I get the sense that’s what the Broncos’ players, the city of Humboldt and the rest of the S-J-H-L wants. But, until Friday’s back-end of a season-opening home and home series between the Broncos and Hawks in Nipawin is done, the intense national and international spotlight on the first game, the first bus ride and first road game of a new season for Humboldt is going to dominate and be a distraction! Hang in there guys…all the extra curricular stuff is almost done! But, never forget April 6th!!
Next headline…New season, old memories: Hawks return to Humboldt, S-J-H-L champs face Broncos for first time since tragic crash ended playoff series. Reaction…the Nipawin Hawks are cast as unwitting accomplices in this real-life story that no film-writer or playright could’ve ever imagined…let alone penned! The Hawks won’t be Humboldt’s version of the Washington Generals…not by a long shot…and the new Broncos wouldn’t want it any other way!
Last headline…Durant open to idea of comeback, Former Roughriders quarterback says he keeps himself in shape just in case he gets a call. My reaction…That’s nice! As much as I liked Darian Durant when he played, please don’t try to be the second coming of Brett Favre and try to hang on…no matter how good your conditioning is! Move along, nothing to see here!!
That’s my Parting Shot, I’m Les Lazaruk…
