Students at Princess Alexandra Community School in the Riversdale neighbourhood are now set to begin the school year with all the supplies they need thanks to a couple of football players. Saskatchewan Roughriders Jovon Johnson and Bruce Thompson delivered backpacks to students at the school Monday morning.
The backpacks are filled with a variety of school supplies including binders, paper, pencils, erasers and pens.
Johnson, a native of Erie, Pennsylvania says it means a lot for him to give back to the community and provide children with an opportunity that wasn’t there for him when he was growing up.
The defensive back adds that with being a pro football player, it’s not what you do on the field but rather it’s what you off the field that your legacy will stand for.
A total of 500 backpacks will be donated by Johnson and his Roughrider teammates to students at schools in Saskatoon and Regina for the 2018-19 school year.
