It’s World Suicide Prevention Day and Saskatoon is getting involved by staging a ceremony at the Vimy Memorial. Speakers will include Municipal and Provincial Government officials as well as community leaders committed to getting people the mental health support they need. Representatives from the advocate for children and youth in addition to the crisis intervention service will also speak. The Executive Director of Saskatoon Branch of the Canadian Mental Health Association says work has begun to form a working group tasked with devising a suicide prevention strategy for Saskatoon. Faith Bodnar feels they are breaking down the stigma surrounding suicide but work needs to continue toward the goal of having those with mental health issues realize taking their own life isn’t the only option.
The ceremony starts at 7 p.m.
