A conference in Switzerland has recognized the University of Saskatchewan’s College of Medicine.
The 2018 ASPIRE-to-Excellence Award in Social Accountability was awarded to the College at the annual Association for Medical Education in Europe conference.
The award is for medical schools that show deliberate and continuing efforts to integrate social accountability in all aspects.
Dean of the U of S College of Medicine, Dr. Preston Smith, says this indicates the efforts to engage and support Indigenous and under-served communities, along with other partners and stakeholders, are on track.
In the past year, a new Diversity and Social Accountability Admissions Program was implemented and the first students from this program will begin in the fall.
Six of the 100 seats in the medical doctor degree program are reserved for those from economically challenged backgrounds.
