Saskatoon Fire Department officials will spend the next year formulating a plan for a regional training facility.
Assistant Chief Anthony Tataryn says they’ll consult with Martensville and Warman to find out what’s needed to build a facility that works for all three municipalities. Tataryn points out Martinsville and Warman already have training sites without the infrastructure.
Saskatoon has been without a facility since 2006. A by-law banning burning within the city shut down the training site at the main fire hall and the tower structure was torn down in 2013 and turned into a parking lot.
The City has considered several locations since 1988, including land next to the fire hall on Taylor Street East, commercial land on Fletcher Road and the Civic Operations Centre on Valley Road.
Tataryn also says in addition to making a plan suitable for three municipalities, officials need to figure out a funding formula.
