Coffee is good for you…no, wait…coffee is bad for you…..wait again; coffee isn’t so bad for you. Alcohol is bad for you….no, wait, a little bit can actually be good for you……wait again, hold the presses….any amount can be bad for you. Meat is good for you because it contains protein, iron, zinc, selenium, vitamins A B and D………no, wait, meat is bad for you because it increases the risk of cancer, heart disease and diabetes and makes it harder to maintain a healthy body weight. Good grief! I was raised on what I perceived to be a balanced diet consisting of meat, vegetables, fruit and baked goods, referring mainly to bread. Ok, and sometimes cookies, pie, etc., for dessert. When you look around today you find any number of what I call fad diets where, for example, you eat nothing but meat and salad and cut out carbs. Then there are vegetarians and vegans who never eat meat. I say fine, more power to all of them if that’s their choice. As for me, I will continue to go through life eating a little bit of whatever I want from every food group. Notice I said a little bit. Nothing I’ve heard or read has convinced me that completely cutting out one thing is the magic formula to a healthy life. To me, moderation is the key. And I’m going to stop reading those studies that keep changing as to what is good or bad for me. Sooner or later I wouldn’t know what to eat.
