It’s my Parting Shot to look ahead at hockey season, albeit too soon for my liking…
I just spent most of the previous four days hanging around hockey folks and teams. I must say, the weather co-operated with temperatures dipping from the high 20s and low 30s, celsius, to the mid-teens…making it feel like winter was just around the corner.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m anxious for the new hockey season to start…I just wish it would be another couple of weeks before starting, like after Labour Day!
It just seems wrong to be talking training camps and exhibition games in August…but that seems to be the way it has to be in order to fit in elongated schedules for junior leagues…complete with time off in the midst of the season for international tournaments, special series, prospect games and, of course, a break for Christmas!
I don’t know what the solution is, aside from reducing the number of games played…which was already done for this season, but likely won’t be again! I guess I just have to suck it up…put away my golf clubs, bike and shorts and dive back into my passion!
My life could be a lot worse…trust me!!
That’s my Parting Shot, I’m Les Lazaruk…
